Newborn Mini Session vs. Full Newborn Session: What’s the Difference?

Newborn Mini Session vs. Full Newborn Session: What’s the Difference?

Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most special moments, and capturing those early days through newborn photography is something you’ll never regret. Whether you’re considering a quick and simple session or a more in-depth experience, it’s helpful to understand the difference between a Newborn Mini Session and a Full Newborn Session so you can choose the one that best fits your family’s needs.

Newborn Mini Session – Perfect for Simplicity

Mini sessions are designed for parents looking for a shorter, more streamlined session. These sessions are one hour longand focus on capturing your baby in a few sweet and classic setups.

Here’s what’s included:

  • One hour session time – The session will stay within the hour window, even if your baby needs extra time for feeding or soothing.
  • Swaddled and semi-swaddled poses only – These sessions focus on wrapped poses to keep baby calm and content.
  • No belly or side-lying poses – These more intricate poses are reserved for full sessions.
  • Mom + baby – Two different types of poses.
  • Dad + baby – Two different types of poses.
  • Family – Two different family poses.
  • Siblings not included – If you’d like to include siblings, you can do so for an additional $100.

Mini sessions are a great option for families wanting a beautiful, budget-friendly way to document the newborn stage without spending too much time in the studio.

Full Newborn Session – The Full Experience

A full newborn session is ideal for families wanting a more relaxed pace and a greater variety of images and poses. These sessions usually last around two hours, but we work on baby’s schedule — meaning feedings, diaper changes, and snuggles don’t cut into your session time.

Here’s what makes a full session different:

  • Flexible session length – We take breaks as needed, allowing baby (and parents!) to stay comfortable and relaxed.
  • Full variety of poses – Includes swaddled, semi-swaddled, side-lying, belly poses, and more.
  • More variety for parents and family – You’ll receive a wider selection of setups for mom + baby, dad + baby, and family shots.
  • Siblings are always included – No added fee for sibling images.

Full sessions offer a truly comprehensive experience, with more creative freedom and time to capture those once-in-a-lifetime newborn details.

Which Session Is Right for You?

Both sessions will give you beautiful images of your baby’s earliest days. If you’re looking for something quick and simple, or just want to focus on baby alone, the Mini Session might be perfect for you. If you’d like more variety, relaxed pacing, and the full newborn experience, then the Full Newborn Session is definitely the way to go.
